GOOD WORK COMMENDED

Cordial appreciation of the good work for the Dickens Fellowship on the part of Mrs. Cruttenden was expressed at a recent meeting by Captain Galloway (president). Mrs. Cruttenden is a tireless worker for the success of meetings, presenting sketches and readings and inspiring others to do likewise. The last meeting was a very successful one owing to Miss Hardinge-Maltby, whose dramatic talent is well known in Wellington. She held the close attention of all present by her reading from one of the Christmas books. Mr. C. Smythe gave much pleasure by his readings from "Pickwick Papers," arid Mrs. L. Johnston in her selections from "Martin Chuzzlewit." A successful dramatic sketch from "The Old Curiosity Shop" was well rendered by some of the junior members. Musical items were given by Miss Wainwright (accompanied by Miss H. Stevenson), and songs at, the piano were given by Miss L. C. Kay. The "Brotherhood Chorus" and National Anthem concluded a successful evening,
