HUTT ROAD SMASH

Spectacular results followed a collision • between • a light roadster and a Hindu's truck near the junction of Onslow Road- and the Hutt Road at about 5.30 • o'clock'"'on! Saturday afternoon. Both • vehicles . were badly . smashed about the- front. by the impact, and the- truck ■ at. once- took fire, but the blaze-was extinguished, by an Automobile Association patrolman before any great- damage was. done. Fruit and tomatoes on the truck were scattered across the bitumen, and a long stream of traffic, was held up for a while after ■the/collision. ■..'...'," Flight-Lieutenant .■ A. G. Gerrand, pilot-instructor to the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club, who was driving the roadster, suffered slight injuries which necessitated his removal to a private hospital. His condition today was- stated to be quite satisfactory; • but -he- -will remain in hospital for a few days yet. Mr. Paran -Parma was the driver of the truck.
