I The second meeting of the 1935 seaeoi of the Circolo de Lingua c Cnlturaltalian* was held in the Lyceum Club rooma>' last week, when members were entertained by a varied programme organised br Signor 0 Carraro. Mis. Rose Montgomery read in Italian an interesting resume of the life and works of AlessandrS Manzom. poet and novelist, author of the famous "I Promeßsi Sposi.*' Miss Horna Bitossi gave a humorous recitation* "Yorkshire Fun." and responded to an encore *& h '^'"P ,at » Wedding"; Miss Dorotny Nolan played two violin numbers. -"Serenata" (Dngo-Auer) and "Londonderry Air"; and Miss Yolanda Bitossc gave a pianoforte solo. "Troika" koweky). Vocal eoloswere contHb"ted as i ollowe: Mr A. Comparini, '«Mattinati" (Leoncavallo) and "Serenata" frpm "I Paßhaeci"; Miss Marjorie Mann. "Csro Mio Ben If and ''When Song is Sweef '$ Miss Momca Kelly "Vissi d'arte. vissS d^more" (PuccinO; Mrs. X Comparini, •'Poyero Core" (Muwtori)- and an. encore' number. The accompanists.were Mrs. M. Chmino and Mrs. A. Comparini. The pro* gramme was brought to a close by the singing of 'iiiovinezza," after-,whicb supper was served The instruction class was conducted by Signor Cay. Dott. G. Formi- ' chella (Consul and patron) r and the more advanced students formed a conversation ' circle under the direction of Signor. 0. Carraro. - * A new type of, flashlight-bulb, no larger than a kernel of corn, has permitted the manufacture of a practical flashlight said to be smaller than anything else of its kind. Resembling a small fountain pen, the flashlight is a convenient handbag or vest pocket accessory, and 'offers a convenience to many, workers from doctors t» plumbers.
