REGENT THEATRE.
The pitfalls and dangers that await the daring adventurers who fight their way Into the jungles of-the Malay Peninsula are vividly depicted in the exciting film "Beyond Bengal," which is now showing at the Eegent Theatre. There have been many animal pictures shown on the screen in Wellington,. but here is one which attracts.immediate notice by the authenticity of its scenes, and the wonderful pictures of the jungle's wildest inhabitants in their natural haunts. The story traces the adventures met with by a party of cameramen and scientists who penetrate far down the Malayan peninsula, using elephants to break a way through the heavy ' growth. There are some wonderful shots in' the first portion of the picture .of giant pythons, and one is seen catching and crushing its hapless victim, a monkey who was not quick enough to escape. • Later the cameras' are turned on a huge herd of elephants in a swampy valley, and some interesting shots are presented of their customs and manner of living. Finding it necessary to reach civilisation as quickly as possible owing to the sickness of a woman scientist,' the party sets out to cross the treacherous Boya River, :which- is teeming with crocodiles. The .most thrilling sequences of the film are enacted, on the river, which the natives attempt.to.clear of the creatures by setting but in canoes and capturing them. Some of the canoes ure up6et, and the occupants are thrown out into the crocodile-infested river. The love drama of two yojing natives who • accompany the expedition forrtis a'strong background to the film. The native boy is badly mangled by a crocodile, but finally recovers. A further excellent feature of the programme .is , a film record of the great Scout Jamboree held'at Alelbourne. Many different nationalities are represented among the Scouts, ■ arid ■ their different dresses and customs are-shown on the film.- The New Zealand contingent arouses particular: interest.
