CANADIAN SALMON INDUSTRY

The British Columbia salmon catch last year was 1,559,340cwt, •as compared with 1,302,510cwt in 1933, and the landed value in 1934 amounted to 5,340,150d015, a gain of more than 1,466,000d015. The, pack !of canned - salmon in British -Columbia last year totalled approximately 1,565,000 cases of 48 one-pound tins.' There were .increased packs of co.hoes, blue-backs, and.of spring salmon, but the most striking : features of the 1934 pack were'the big increases of sockeyes and chums. The pack of sockeyes, the m6st valuable of .the Pacific .salmon, was 370,860 cases as against 258,107 in 1933; while the pack of chums 'reached about 505,000 cases, an-increase of 211,400 cases over 1933. '
