ITS HIGH STANDARD
. Yesterday afternoon a-little function was held;at'the Turnbull Library to welcome ■ back Mr. C. R. H. Taylor, assistant librarian, and' Mrs.;; Taylor/ from their*'year's .visit-to "England, America;' Snd' the "Continent, "where they visited libraries, public and private, printing establishments, museums, and other institutions connected with the printing arid publishing of books generally: , ; ' -"/'.- ■• .
Officers'of the department; the staff, and;a;few people,interested in the Turnbuli Library. were present;' and Mr. Taylor had on exhibition i number of finely-printed books and specimen sheet pages of beautiful printing, as well as catalogues of private and public libraries gathered by him during his trip. He spoke, of these and of some of the things they had seen 'in their visits to the towns of the Did World, to Europe they visited Ger-, many, France, Belgium, and Italy. As regards.book work and: book production,: Germany easily, came first, which probably' is . as it should be, seeing that.Germany wastfye cradle of printing and book production. !•'One very pleasing,thing was .that after seeing the very fine private libraries of rare books in America, as well'as the most extensive libraries in the great cities riot only in' America but in' England and on the1 Continent, Mr. Taylor' returned to the Turnbuli Library impressed with its high standard and the high place that' it: takes even amongst the fine libraries of the world. Mr. Taylor expressed the opinion that this trip would be of great assistance to him in helping to keep the Turnbiill Library in the. prominent position it nowi occupies among the libraries of the world. •. •-<■'.....'
