LABOUR IN CONTROL
MAJORITY IN DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, This Day. The Dunedin Mayoralty contest re. suited as follows:—
Rev. E. T. Cox (Labour) ... 12,077 J. J. Marlow (Citizens) .. 10,406 R. S. Black (Independent) 5,210 . Majority for Cox 1,671 Mr. Cox is the sitting Mayor. In the City Council poll Labour won six seats and the Citizens' Association six seats. The new council is as follows:—P. Jones, M.P. (L.) 15,609, D. G. McMillan (L:) 15,462, J. W. Munro, MJ?. <L.) 14,987, Mark Silverstone (L.) 14,658, W. Begg 13.338, W. H. Scott 12,972, A. H. Allen 12,810, F. W. Mitchell 12,509 W H. Shepherd 12,299, P. Neilson (L.) 11,974, D. C. Cameron 11,917, W. Batchelor (L.) 11,681.
In the Hospital Board election six of the old members were returned, Labour gaining one seat through the return of Mr. Mark-Silverstone.
For the Harbour Board three sitting members were returned, and the. Citizens' Party and Labour each" won another seat. '"■.'•'"■•
The poll was a record one, 27,693 of the total of 37.228 electors on the roll exercising their franchise. The new system of voting by means of a cross proved successful, the number of informal votes being reduced from 3351 on the last occasion to 585.
