M.C.C. IN WEST INDIES

POOR AVERAGES

The disappointing performances of the M.C.C. in the recent Series of Tests with the West Indies has led to a further urge that the English cricket selectors should find fresh talent for engagements ahead. Granted that the West Indies are notoriously hard to beat on their own grounds, Wyatt's M.C.C. team, in batting, showed up Engish cricket in a poor light. "If the tour be regarded as a dress rehearsal for Australia," states one writer, "the' first essential would seem to be extensive changes in the cast." In the Tests (with a maximum of eight innings) the best average was 28.85. Ley land, who was perhaps England's best, bat against Australia last year, could average only. <3. In other respects, the averages look bad. They are:—
