ITEMS OF INTEREST

St. Patrick's College, Silyerstream, was bathed in glorious sunshine on the occasion of its jubilee reception yesterday afternoon. Many visitors from all parts of the Dominion were present, and the arrangements were well carried out. After guests had arrived, many joined in the sports, tennis, golf, quoits, rackets, etc., while others strolled about the spacious grounds. At 3 o'clock the majority .wended their way to the large Assembly Hall, where a short programme of music was provided, followed by '■ speeches. :• • The; items rendered by the school choir and orchestra under the leadership of, the Bey. C. Feehly, were excellent and showed very fine training of the boys. Among those present were Archbishop O'Shea, Father Cullen (St. Patrick's, Wellington), Monsighors McManus (Palmerston North), Connelly (Kilbirnie), the Rev. Father Hurley (Provincial of the Marist Order), the Rev. A. Berger, S.M. (Rector of St. Bede's, Christchurch), Monsignor Morkane, D.D., M-A. (Dunediri), the Rev. F. h. Dignan (formerly student and master at St. Patrick's College), B. McCarthy, K.S.G. (Hawera), president of St. Patrick's Old Boys' Association. Chilton St. James Schpol held its Easter celebrations in glorious weather. On Saturday inter-team baseball matches were played, "Orange" team gaining first place, with "Red and Green" tying for second place. On Monday evening a fancy dress dance was held in the Chilton Hall, Miss Fitzgerald receiving the guests. The hall was gaily decorated with balloons and flowers,,and a very happy time was^ spent by all. A dainty supper served in the library brought an enjoyable evening to" a close. PERSONAL, Mrs. H. M. Hayward, 'TRata," has re-, turned from a visit to Napier and Palmerston North. .• Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Foster are visiting in Nelson. ■ . Miss B. Humphries and her cousin, Mrs. H. Lattey, are visiting New Plymouth for the jubilee, of the high school in that town. They are both foundation pupils of the school. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. ST. PATRICK'S OLD BOYS

■ A fitting finale to St. Patrick's College golden jubilee celebrations, the Old Boys' ball, took place last evening at the Town Hall, which had been handsomely decorated for the occasion. The central figure of the decoration scheme was a "cut-out" of the college in Cambridge Terrace. This screened the origan loft and with windows illuminated from behind and a charming-ly-arranged shrubbery in. front. was most realistic. From the gallery swathes of blue and white muslin formed a misty canopy with trails of lycopodium, which were caught . in the. central chandelier of tiny electric bulbs. Against the centre of the back gallery hung a handsomely-painted shield bearing the college coat of arms on a silver background. Flanking this, surrounding the hall, hung the coats of arms of the late Archbishop Redwood (founder of St. Patrick's _ College), Archbishop O'Shea (the first pupil), St. Patrick's Old. Boys' Association, St. Patrick's, Silverstream, the Society of Mary, and .of the other schools, which originated from St. Patrick's, Woodlawn (Australia), and St. Bede's College (Christchurch). The vestibule of the Town Hall, where the guests were received by Dr. Roiland O'Regan (chairman of committees) and Mrs. O'Regan, was arranged as a comfortable lounge and was a bower of flowers and greenery. Mrs.. O'Regan wore a.becoming gown of cocoa-beige lac& with touches, of brown velvet and she carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers. Messrs. B. F. Kelly, W. R. Hart, M. O'Connor, J. R, Wickliffe, L. B. Day, and Dr. O'Regan were members of the

ball committee, the decorations, which were designed by Mr. Kelly, having been carried out by Mr. W. J. Conroy and assistants. The supper committee comprised Mesdames M.: Goodson, B. F. Kelly, M. O'Connor, and helpers. The chief guests of the Old Boys were his Grace Archbishop T. O'Shea, Metropolitan of New Zealand, Mr. Bernard McCarthy,: K.S.G. (Hawera) and Mrs. McCarthy (the latter wearing a gown of mushroom pink flat crepe). Among the many dancers were:— Mr. and Mrs. W. A. A successful children's party was recently held in Prosser's Hall, Porirua, when Uncle Campbell, from 2YA, entertained the children with songs and' games. Mr. G. Colley, on behalf of the Plunket Committee, thanked Uncle Campbell for his valuable assistance in making the party a success. Mrs. E.
