VOLUNTEER FIREMEN

THE UPPER HUTT BRIGADE The annual report of the Upper Hutt Municipal Volunteer Fire Brigade, presented at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, stated that the number of,, calls received during the year was 18, made up as follows: —Property fires, 4'; .contents of buildings damaged by fire, 31; lorry fire, 1; gorse fires, etc., 10. During the year the Borough Council supplied 000 feet of new hose and IS: working tunics. Teams from the brigade took part in the Hutt Valley United Fire Brigades' demonstration at Eastbourne on December 1, 1934, and won the Baldwin Shield, prize money to the value: of £2 2s Gd, and a special prize of firewood to the value of 10s. Donations to the value of £24 18s Cd were received by the brigade. A picture entertainment given by Mi1. K. Ileald realised £6 16s tid. ■ The local demonstration , between the Upper Hutt and Silvoi-btreant Fire Brigades, ' held at Maidstonc Park on Eas-tcr Monday, was a gicat success. The Upper Hutt te<ims won all the trophies. Donations to the value of approximately £6 were received from various donors for prize money. The total strength of tho brigade was 12 firemen and a messenger. At the annual meeting of the brigade all the officers were re-elected. -
