FAREWELL SOCIAL

■/'A,-farewell social was tendered by the Hutt/ Valley and Johnsonvillc- branches of the New Zealand Poultry ■<Porducers' Federation and the Hutt Valley Poultry, Pigeon, and Cage Bird Society to Mr., 11.I1. C. ;Brown, Chief Poultry Instructor,' who is retiring at the end of this month. The function took place at Lower Hutt^ on Wednesday, Mr. A. G. Mumby> president of the Hutt Valley blanch, presiding. Mr. Brown was presented by Mrs. Mumby with a. charming basket of flowers, and later in the evening received.a mounted and framed address, which was read by the chairman. The address expresses appreciation. of the 31 years of able, service tendered by Mr. Brown to the industry, his-work in organisation, his upholding of a high standard of grading'for'export and insistence on utility standards and practical methods, all combined with a personality that had worked its way into the .heart of all. Mr. Brown, in-return-ing, thanks for the gift and the remarks that accompanied it, spoke o£ the great kindness-he had always received, from .-the people with whom he came in contact in his work. Mrs. Brown was presented with a blue morocco handbag. Ajjwelcome was extended to Mr. Brown's sueI cessor, Mr. C, Cursen. Items were rendered during the evening by Messrs. ,Tenlrins and G. S. Bates (songs), Miss Esther Jenkins and sister (dancing), and Mr. C. Cursen (recitation). Mrs. Stirton was at the piano.

Plans are being prepared to electrify the railway between Berlin and Munich over its entire length of about 500 miles.
