BOWLING

THORNDON RINK'S SUCCESS

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N.. April 26.

Brilliant bowling was witnessed by a large number of spectators at the Palmerston North Club's green on Wednesday afternoon, when Perry (Thorndon Club) met Crump (Palmerston North Club) in the final of the Manawatu Bowling Centre's Easter rinks tournament. Forty-four rinks, representing nearly all affiliated clubs and a number of visitors, participated in the fixture, 17 rinks qualifying for post-section play. The fifth and final day saw L. Hyams, J. Gibson, P. White, and H. Perry (s), of Wellington, meeting H. Green, 6. Tremaine, A. E. Kerslake, and W. B. Crump (b), of Palmerston North, in the final. The match was undoubtedly one of the finest seen locally for many years and there waa little to choose between the sides, all contestants being at the top of their form. ' •Crump led 10-6 at the eighth head and 18-10 at the fifteenth. It was 20-14 against the Wellington men at the 18th', but Perry added 2 on the 19th and 3 on the next. Then on the last head Perry secured a single and the game was a draw. According to the rules another game should have been played, # but as the visitors did not have:the time at their disposal, it was agreed to decide the issue on three extra heads. Perry then secured a single on the 22nd and a 3 on the 23rd while Crump took 1 off the last to make the final result: Perry 24, Crump 21. . Barry (s), Palmerston North, beat Arnott (s), Palmerston North, 26-19, for third position, after two extra heads were played. . . :
