LONDON MEAT MARKET

The Bank of New Zealand, Produce Department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this.week: —Trade in wethers is brighter with a better demand. There is a fair demand for ewes. There is >. little Iftetter demand for lamljs; the market is weyi supplied. There is only a moderate demand for beef. Wethers, light 3 5-8 dto 4 7-8 d per lb; heavy, 3 l-8d to 3%d. Ewes, 2%d to 3%d. Lambs, 2's G 3-8 dto G%d; B's 6 3-8 dto 6^3(1; 4's, 0 3-8 dto 6%d;- seconds, 5 7-8 d to 6 l-Bd. Ox hinds, 3%d to 3*^d; fores, 2 3-Sd to 2 5-Bd. ' Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated April 2G. giving North Island frozen meat quotations:— ' Down lambs, 28/361b 6 5-8 d per lb; 36/4. 6%d. Crossbred lambs, 28/36. O'/sd; 38/42 6 3-Bd. Second quality lambs, average 30/5) Gd. Wethers, under 48, 4%d; 48/56, i ]-8d; 56/64. 3y 2 cl; 64/72, 3Mid. Ewes, under 48, 3 5-Sd; 48/56, 2 7-8 d; 50/54, '2%£; 64/72 2V&d. 'New' Zealand,', prime ox beef, 160/220, 3d. Compared, with last week's quotations crossbred lamb, 36/421b, l-8d per lb lower. AVether.«, under 641b, 1-8-1 per lb lower. Ewes, 48/561b, l-8d per Ib lower. Prime ox beef; 1-lGd per Ib lower. Others unchanged. The demand is good but not sufficient to cope with very heavy stocks. The market is slightly easier.
