The return of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for the week ended April 22, when compared-with "that for the week ended April 10, shows an, inercas'o in the note issue of £31,589. The bank began with a goldholding, taken from the trading banks. amounting to, £259,312. This was in creased to £4,351,727 on September 10 of ' lafet year, and was reduced to £3,551,727 on October 1. It was still further reduced towards the end of October, and by November 5 it was down,to £3,001,727. at which figure it remained until April 15. * The sterling exchange account at £22,484,908 • shows an increase for this week of £417,007.
