KILBIRNIE SCHOOL

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION

At the annual meeting of the Kilbirnie Home and School Association recently there was a good attendance of members. i Reporting on the year's activities, the president said that they had combined with the school committee in having wireless apparatus installed in' the school, and this would enable pupils to obtain advantage from the educational broadcast talks. Equipment for sports and games had been . purchased, as well as books for the] use of scholars. The school competitions had again proved highly successful. Ths finances of the association were quite satisfactory. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr. G. Austin Blackie (re-elect-ed); vice-presidents, Messrs. F. Sherwood and A. J. Youl; honorary secretary, Mr. E. Smith; honorary treasurer, Mr. P. Fairbrother; executive committee, Mesdames Taplin, Kitching, MeCune, Brown, and Jeffs, and Messrs. Jenkins and Pringle. . , . Eulogistic references were made to the splendid services rendered by the retiring honorary secretary (Mrs. F. Sherwood) and honorary treasurer (Mr. A. J. Youl), who had occupied the positions since the formation of the organisation. As a token of appreciation of their work Mrs. Sherwood was presented with a silver teapot and Mr. Youl with a case of pipes. The school committee elections are now held biennially arid consequently a householders' meeting will not be held this year. Mr. F. H. Porter (chairman of the school committee) therefore took advantage of the occasion to give an outline of the work of his committee during •, the past twelve months. He emphasised particularly the difficulties .that had arisen in connection with.the staffing of the school, the numerous changes that had occurred in the staff, and the paucity of capitation grants. He thanked the association for the help rendered to the school committee, and he urged the desirability of parents showing a still greater interest in educational matters. It was decided by the incoming executive committee .to again conduct dances during the season for the purpose of raising funds for the school.
