ALLEGED VAGRANT'S STORY
CONFESSION TO NEWSPAPER
ADELAIDE, April 20.
When Robert Henderson Rae appeared in* the Adelaide court on Saturday, charged with vagrancy, the police prosecutor informed the Court that Rae claimed to be the murderer of the girJi whose body was found in a culvert att Albury last September, since when the police have been unable to unravel tb.e crime. ,
Rae. who had'declared that he came from New Zealand, wenj into an AJdelaide newspaper office^ last Thuradlay and said he had brought the girl ixom New Zealand, after which they lived as man and wife. In a fit of ragij he strangled her, then disposed' of /the body. Rae, interviewed by the police, would neither admit nor deny the foregoing statement, saying, he was unable to recollect going into the .newspaper office. • ,
He was remanded until May 4»
A message from Sydney was published on September 3 stating tihat the body of a girl of about 20 hadi been found in a culvert near Alburjy. The forehead was battered and the legs and part of the trunk charred. Investigations on an unprecedented scale have been made by the police to secure information as to the. identity of the girl and the circumstances in which she' died. ' :
