SIR FREDERICK THOMSON, M.P. (Received April 22, 11 a.m.) ■■, . ■ LONDON, April 21. Obituary:, Sir Frederick Charles Thomson, 59, Scottish Unionist representative for ■ South Aberdeen in the House of Commons since 1918.

Sir Frederick Thomson was born at Leith and was educated at the Edinburgh Academy and,the Oxford and Edinburgh Universities. He was admitted as an Advocate of the Scottish Bar in 1901, and of the Bar at the Inner Temple mv 1904. As a lieutenant in the Scottish Horse he served in Egypt, and with the Lovatt Scouts at Salonika where he -was severely wounded.' . He was, Parliamentary Private Secretary to Sir Robert Home from 1919 till 1922. Appointed a King's Counselin 1923, he' was Solicitor-Gen-eral for Scotland in 1923-24. He had two terms as Junior Lord of the Treasury, and also as Vice-Chamber-lain •of his Majesty's Household. Ho was created a First Baronet in 1929. He acted as Whip for the Scottish Unionist Party. ,

Obituary: Lady Lucy Duff-Gordon. Like her husband, who succumbed in 1931, Lady Duff-Gordon died in April, the anniversary month pf the disaster to the Titanic, from which both were rescued in the captain's boat. The inquiry vindicated the husband from charges of cowardice in connection with the wreck, but the indignity of the allegations preyed upon his mind.

The Titanic, a White Sar liner of 45,000 tons, collided with an iceberg off the Newfoundland coast on April 14, 1912, while on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. The .ship sank and 1635 lives were lost out of a complement of 2310.
