HOLIDAY EVENTS

TODAY'S FIXTURES

Easter sporting events in various parts of the Wellington district are being continued today under ideal conditions, golfers, cricketers, tennis players, and bowlers in particular having plenty to occupy their time. Many motoring parties again left the city for the country, hiking and cycling parties were popular this morning, and a large number of excursionists left for Picton by the Rangatira. : The Wellington provincial golf championships are being continued at Heretaunga, and numerous club fixtures are being played, the cricket matches between Victoria College and Waipukurau, and Hastings and Wellington juniors are proceeding, the Easter rink tournament, one-day rink tournaments, and the McArthur and Henry Shield inter-club match are being played on the bowling greens, the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's Easter tournament and the Wellington Lawn Tennis League tournament are continuing, and the Easter yachting conducted by the Paremata Yachting Club is providing sailing for yachtsmen. The Tauherenikau and Peilding racecourses proved popular with Wellington racegoers on Saturday, and a large number have gone from the city today to see the concluding events of those meetings. Included among those at Tauherenikau today are his Excellency the Governor-General (Lord Galway).

There are no Rugby matches locally, but several Wellington teams arc playing in other centres
