A third grade match between MelroseSelwyn and Miramar, played as a curtainraiser at Athletic Park, was won by Miramar by 30 points to 3. Askew kicked two penalty goals and a goal from the field for the winners, and Hall scored a try for the losers. Petone fourth grade team defeated a Carterton team by 30 points to C. In a practice match at Lower Hutt the A team (led by Lilburne) won frqui the B team by 11 points to 0.
