REFEREES' ASSOCIATION
INAUGURAL MEETING
The inaugural meeting of the New Zealand Basketball' Referees' Association was held on Saturday afternoon, Mrs. H. D. Muir presiding. After welcoming the delegates on behalf of the New Zealand Basketball Association Mrs. Muir outlined the steps that had been made towards the formation of the Referees' Association.
1 It was decided that the New Zealand Basketball Referees' Association be formed immediately; that the associations represented be the foundation members; and that other ~ associations be granted membership according to the constitution when formed.
The officers of the association are to consist of a president (who shall not be president of the New Zealand Basketball Association), vice-presidents, not exceeding four,' to be elected at the annual general meeting, and secrer tary-treasurer. Two .of the vice-presi-dents are to be from the South Island and two from the North Island. An association wishing to affiliate must have at least eight active' members. Voting is to be on the basis of 8-15 members, 1 vote; 16 or more, 2 votes. For the purpose of voting those to be regarded as active members are those who are financial and who have officiated on at least 50 per cent; of the playing days under their local basketball associations. MEMBERSHIP FEES. An affiliation , fee of 10s 6d was decided on for associations of 8 to 15 members, associations with 16 or more members being charged an annual fee of £1 Is. •'■■••.- \t was decided that there should be four practical examiners, two in the North Island an,d two in the South Island, and that there should be a theoretical examiner who might or might not be one of these four. > The board of examiners to be elected at the annual-general meeting is to conduct practical examinations of referees on behalf of the association, Each member of the board is to be authorised to conduct a practical examination alone. Each, examiner in conducting an examination is to employ the scale of markings adopted by the board and approved by the management committee. It was decided that in ail cases .where the association was requested to nominate referees for any match under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Basketball Association preference should be given as follows:—(1) Members who have qualified under the rules, of the association; (2); members who have qualified under the rules of associations affiliated to the association; (3) other referees 'who are members of associations affiliated to the association. -.•■•■'■■ ' .
Mr. S. G. Macfarlane was elected as first president of the association, the vice-presidents elected being Mesdames J. C. Hayhurst, R. S. Mclnnes, Miss M. E. Armstrong, and Mr. Craw-ford-Smith.
The .examination board is to consist of the. following:—North Island: Mrs. H. D. Muir and Miss M. E. Armstrong. South • Island: Miss E. B. Pay and Mr. S. ,G. Macfarlane. Theoretical examiner: Mrs. R. S. Mclnnes.
The theoretical examination is to be held from June 9 to June 15, 1935, applications to be made by June 1.
Referees of affiliated associations when refereeing matches are to wear a suitable white uniform, and upon attaining qualification under the association's rules will be entitled to wear the association's badge.
