AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW.
The Wellington Horticultural Society's autumn flower- show, to be held at the Town Hall next Wednesday, will be offi-. nially opened at 3 p.m. by the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom). The result of the native garden competition (Lord Bledisloe's trophy) will be announced. Although the entries do not close until Tuesday evening many entries have already come in, one competitor alone accounting for sixty. Owing.to the dry season chrysanthemums have been * rather lii.te for the earlier shows, and the blooms on Wednesday will: be at their best. Dahlias, hydrangeas, and other cut flowers will be seen in profusion, and there will be numerous entries in the fruit and vegetable classes. Ladies will be well featured in the decorative classes, and Mrs. Charles Haines's novel stand will be up to its usual high standard. The main feature of the show will be the competition, by special entry, for the valuable cash prize from the Arnold Izard Memorial Fund for the best exhibit in any branch of horticulture. As the whole of the main hall wi|l be required for competitive, special, and trade exhibits, afternoon tea will be- served in the Concert Chamber. The show will be open continuously from 2 p.m., and flowers, etc., will be on sale at the .president's stall during the afternoon and eveninc.
