WOMAN'S SUICIDE
(By lVii'LTiinh-'Prfss Association.) INVERCARGILL, April 17. After being reported as missing from her room, Mrs. Matilda Miriam Grenfell, aged 41, an inmate of a canvalescent home, was found dead in a tank of water behind the house this morning. At an inquest this afternoon the Coroner returned a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind.
A charge of commencing a scheme by which prizes -were competed for by mode of chance was made in the Magistrate's Court today against William Morton Patterson, and on the application of bis counsel, Mr. W. P. Rollings, it was adjourned until May 3. Mr. Rollings said that the charge, which related to a competition conducted' by Adams Bruce, Ltd., would be defended.
The Day's Bay Pavilion will be the scene of high carnival on Easter Saturday night, when the combined dance of the Muritai Tennis Club and the Eastbourne Swimming and Life Saving Club will be held. Bright music will be supplied by the Imperial Dance Band, and among tha guests will be" visiting footballers and teiiuis teams from Greytown and Wanganui. A bus will leave the Hotel Cecil at 7.30 p.m.
