MEAT EXPORT PROBLEM
ARGENTINE VIEWPOINT
QUALITY AND SUPPLY
(By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received April 15, 9 a.m.) - LONDON, April 13.
An illustration v of the Argentine viewpoint regarding British restrictions on beef imports was given by Sir James Caird, chairman of the Smithfield and Argentine Meat Company, at a meeting held yesterday,
• He expressed the opinion that as long as Argentina maintains its breed of beef cattle and its chilling factories, and is permitted to exercise their long and expensively:acquired experience in producing exactly what the British public wants, there is little fear of the loss of the British consumer as a buyer of Argentine chilled beef.
'The Argentine beef-raisers have never wavered in their determination to produce only the best article possible. They h&d achieved this by going to England for the last forty years, purchasing a large number of the best bulls bred by Great Britain at extraordinarily high prices. Sometimes 3000 guineas was paid for yearling bulls. : Sir James Caird declared that the Argentine could supply an article of even quality over. the whole twelve, months of the year. .
