RUGBY, April 12.
The South Wales coai owners' intenItidn. to mark the King's jubilee by.mii augurating, with a 'gift of at least £50,000, a pension fund for miners was. received as a gratifying surprise and was the subject 'of much favourable comment, when if was announced in response to a question in the House of Commons yesterday. The promised gift is all the more notable since the South Wales coal owners have been less prosperous of recent, years than those in other districts. The Federation of-Miners have expressed the utmost pleasure and have themselves contributed a further £20,000.t0 the fund. 2 The Labour M.P., Mr. George Hall, in referring to the gratification, among miners, said, "I really believe the South Wales owners have laid the foundation of a scheme which is the 'Miners' Dream.'"
"The Times" says that their proposal is a! token of good will which will help to bring employers and workmen together in a new and voluntary; enterprise of welfare. . .• ■
