"MAD FAKIR'S" RAID
SURPRISE NIGHT ATTACK
DELHI, April 12.
Tribesmen led by the Fakir of Alingar, known as the "mad fakir of the, frontier," crossed the Swat River and made a determined surprise night attack. The troops repulsed the tribesmen with machine-gun and rifle fire.
The "mad fakir" for, several months has been endeavouring to inflame the tribesmen of the Malakand area to revolt against British rule, but has been defeated in several earlier engagements.

An earth tremor, which was felt in the metropolitan area about noon yesterday, was experienced along the coastal belt from 'Brisbane to Eockhampton. No extensive damage and no injuries have been reported, but at Gayndah, in the Burnett district, a number of buildings were cracked and stock on the shelves of shops was thrown to the floor. Besidents at Kingaroy, where two distinct shocks were felt, rushed in alarm into the streets.
The most severe tremor in the metropolitan area was at Cribb Island, where homes were violently shaken and the residents terrified.
