P.O. SAVINGS BANK
(To the Editor.)
Sir,— May I enter a protest against the practice of the P.O. authorities in deferring, until May, the computation of interest reckoned to March 31, on Savings Bank accounts? I suggest that particularly since deposits in this bank have become heavier than formerly, much delay and inconvenience are caused thereby to depositors-in making out income tax and emergency unemployment returns. —I am, etc., ,
[The authorities explain- that interest cannot be inserted in savings-bank passbooks until it has been entered in the ledgers and the balance at March 31 of each year completed. As the Wellington district has nearly 140,000 accounts, it will be appreciated that this work takes some time. Nevertheless, should any person desire interest immediately inserted for a special or urgent reason, this will be done upon application to the Chief Postmaster or the Accountant.—Ed.]
