DEER IN THE TARARUAS
Deer have been "roaring" in the Tararuas since the last week in March, but so far nothing in the way of exceptional heads has been secured by Palmerston North stalkers. As the result of operations at the head of the Mangahao, ten-pointers were the best that could be secured. Deer were not very numerous in that locality, a "Post" representative was informed, but wild cattle were met, while traces of them were visible in many places. In spite of the fact : that special precautions have been taken to watch the beds and that a man who was caught recently was fined £3, thefts of plants in the Botanical Gardens continue. . During the past week ranunculus, anemones, primula, antirrhinums, and other plants put in to form, spring beds have been stolen.
