CITIZENS' DAY NURSERY
PUBLIC INTEREST NEEDED
Lady Gray presided over, a .meeting held at the Citizens' Day Nursery, when many important matters were
discussed.
It was stated that when the "work of this little institution better the support it deserves; During the 14 years of the nursery's-existence abo^t 70,000 daily attendances have been made. This means, that 70,000 hot dinners have been provided and,.cooked, 70,000 little hats, and coats put away and put on again for the children to go home, 70,000 little bodies warmed, and 70,000 little hearts comforted and befriended through the years! A fine record for one small institution!
The mati/jn and her two/ helpers work hard for long hours. A typical day brings.3o children, three at least being babies, in arm's, and. all the time the washing and cleaning goes on. isitors are made welcome.
A bridge party in aid of the funds will be held in St. John's Ambulance Hall, Vivian Street, next month, also a jumble sale in the Clyde Quay Hall. On behalf of the committee Lady Gray presented Mrs. Firth (who leaves for England this week) . with some small gifts and a bouquet as tokens of good wishes for a happy voyage and safe return. Lady Gray spoke in the warmest terms of Mrs. Firth's kindness, and skill in steering the society's' financial boat safely through hard times with the necessary balance-sheets and audit from the very beginning. Mrs. Firth, in thanking the committee, made light if her good offices and said i: needed only enthusiasm and hard work to interest the public- in this very necess&ry institution to enable it to pull through. She looked forward to many more happy days with the committee.
