SELECTOR REAPPOINTED
Mr. M. ¥. Nicholls rcappointed to art as sole selector this season for the Wellington Rugby Football Union at -the weekly meeting of the committee of the union lnst night at which Mr. J. Prcndrville presided. The decision w^is reached in committee. Tlii.i will be Mr, Nicholls's second torni of ofl-ce in the position. He was chosen last year to succeed Mr. J. N, Millnrd when the latter announced that he was unable to continue to act aa selector. The world-famous dogs of the monks of the lonely monastery of St. Bernard were employed recently to discover the body of a Swiss mountaineer named Hans Jenny, who was killed by an avalanche on the Col St. Ferat. When jan alarm was given St. Bernard dogs ' were called out ari*d, after an hour's 1 search, they found Jenny. Ho had 1 been half buried for four hours. The British, settlement ,on the island of Tristan de Cunha has not lost a single mother or child in childbirth since 1816. They have no doctor, but each generation must have boasted a highly; efficient midwife.
