REPRESENTATIONS MADE

STATEMENT BY SIR J. SIMON

RUGBY, April 1.

In the House of Commons the Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, was questioned regarding the nature of his recent interview with other, signatories of the Memel Statute. Sir John Simon said that representations were made to the Lithuanian Government by the British, French, and Italian Governments. In these representations the Lithuanian Government was informed that the present situation in the Memel territory, in which no directorate possessing the confidence of the Chamber exists, is incompatible with the principle of. autonomy guaranteed to the territory by the statute, and that it is the duty of the Lithuanian Government to bring this situation to an end without delay.
