..■■Mr.. S. Baldwin, presiding. over the dinner of the Worcestershire Association in London, created amusement with the following:— : ; . j
"A short time ago I went for the first time for twelve monthsto a play. I took Mrs. Baldwin with me. It was her birthday. It took me half an hour to drive in a motor from Downing Street to the bottom of Shaftesbury Avenue. When we left I found an inspector of police kindly looking after our car. I said to him, 'What a marvellous age ,we are living in.'
"When: I was young I could have gone there in seven minutes in a hansom. Now we take half an hour. In years to come we shall never get to the theatre at all. You must remember this is progress on behalf of which we are all sacrificing ourselves.
"And he said," added Mr. Baldwin, amid laughter, " 'Very good, sir. 1"
