DE. CHARLES GORDON

VISIT TO SCOTS COLLEGE

A visit was paid to Scots College yesterday by the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Gordon ("Ralph Connor"), who was accompanied by the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery, the Rev. W. Gilmour, and Mr. P. C. Watt, representing the board of governors.

Dr. Gordon was introduced at the school morning assembly! by the principal of the college, Mr. J. M. Sutcliffe, and gave the boys an inspiring address, pointing out. the favourable opportunities, with delightful environments, under which they were iiving, and emphasising the necessity for making the best use of their time, especially by working hard, thereby qualifying themselves for climbing higher and building up something that would be worth while when their time came to take part in outside world affairs.

At the request of Dr. Gordon, the boys sang the school song and the bagpipe band played several selections.

A. vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. Later Mrs. Sutcliffe entertained the visitors and staff at morning tea. Dr. Gordon was introduced to the members of the staff. He expressed himself as delighted with the good work carried on by the school.
