GERMANY'S NEW ARMY, CONSCRIPTION BEGINS (Received April 2, 1 p.m.) BERLIN, April I. Conscription began today with the calling up of 550,000 men, spread over several weeks. The total strength is more likely to reach 750,000 than the estimated half a million. Barracks are being erected throughout Germany.
