A COOL CHANGE
BUT IMPROVING SOON Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate, to fresh but decreasing south-easterly winds. Weather cloudy at first with misty rain at times, but soon improvingl. Cool temperatures. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole issued at noon today is for south-westerly to southerly winds which, although moderate to strong at first, will decrease in force tonight. Scattered showers or misty rain can be expected on the East Coast and northward from Auckland, but conditions should improve gradually, and elsewhere the weather should be fine. Temperatures will be cool. Except for some showers in the western and far southern districts of the South Island, the weather yesterday was fine and mild generally.. During the night, hoy/ever, southerly winds freshened somewhat and the weather became cold and cloudy. Scattered showers have since fallen over most of the South Island, in the Cook Strait area, and in the far north of the North Island. The anticyclone which was located yesterday over the western part of the Tasman Sea has moved eastward and pressure is now rising over the Dominion, although it is still low to the east. Auckland had fine weather yesterday, but it became cloudy during the night and showers were falling this morning with a light south-westerly wind. ' ■ ' .. ' Wellington enjoyed a beautifully mild and sunny day : with a light northerly breeze. During last night, however, the wind became southerly in direction and a few light and misty showers have since fallen. At Kelburn two points of rain have been recorded, and one in Lower Hutt. Christchurch had dull and , mild weather with occasional traces of rain and with. very little wind. Some heavy showers fell there last night, the wind then being a light southwesterly, and this morning's weather was dull and misty. The rainfall measured 23 points. Dunedin's weather yesterday was unsettled and showery with a fresh wind from the south-west. Conditions this morning were cloudy, with a moderate : wind from the same quarter. ______________
The City Council last night passed a motion of sympathy with : the relatives of the late Mr. A. R. Atkinson, who was at one time a member of the council.
