BEACH RACING
UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT
The final bench race meeting of the season f was held by the Ixion Motor-cycle Club at Waik.-inae on Sunday. For the first time in a score of meetings- run by the club, a serious accident occurred, \V. Dodds falling while travelling at a high speed in the first race. He received serious injuries, and died in the Wellington Hospital last night. In view of the accident, the meeting was curtailed at the renucst of the riders.
Results of the race were as follows:—
Two-mile Scratch Race, 350 c.c. Class. —Jones (Barley-Davidson), time 2min ll'see, 1; Young (A.J.S.). 2; Dodds fVelocette), 3.
Two-mile Scratch Race, unlimited class —Jones, U. C. P. (Excelsior), time lmin 59 2-ssee. 1; Fitzgerald (A.J.S.), 2; Styles (Royal Enfield), 3. Jones's, time'equalled Hie club record.
Young (A.J.S.), time smin 41s.ee; 1; Jones Five-mile Scratch, unlimited class.— (Harley-Davidson), 2; Rose (Velocette), 3/ Five-mile Scratch Race, 350 c.c. Class.— Jones (Excelsior), time smin IGsec, 1: Fitzgerald (A.J.S.), 2; Bray (Rudge), 3Jones created a now club record.
Twenty-mile Wellington ■ Provincial Chamnionship. 350 c.c. class.—You ni CA.J.S.h time 23min 57 3-iJsee. 1: Rose. 2 The only finishers in the 3aO c.c. class Youna put up a new club record.
Unlimited Class.—Jono? (Excelsior I time 22inin'48 4-ssce. 1; Hewpr (Douglas) 2; J Dougln? (Scott). 3. Jones created a new club ■ record. The unlimited class of this event wns the big race of the flay, and Jones had a convincing win. never being pressed throughout the race, nnd finally winning by about a quartet of a mile.

Mr. V. Kilgour represented the. New Zealand Auto-cycle Union, and Mr. L. R. Poutawera was responsible for the timekeeping and handicapping. \ In addition to being-club records, all those times so noted establish new New Zealand, records, the club havine the distinction of running the fastest races held inf New Zealand over the. customary, distances. .■■'.■■'.
