STAVISKY'S EFFECTS SOLD

A crowd of suffocating density filled the Hotel Drouot saleroom recently for the sale of Stavisky's personal effects. The extreme contrast in the prices showed that many of the bidders were souvenir hunters. About £4 4s was given for two pairs of skis, but only 3s for a dressing table. A set of golf clubs.brought £4, while a sofa was knocked down for a couple of shillings. Three ordinary safety razors were run up to 25s by eager competitors. The highest figure reached wa* £7 10s,-at which Stavisky's handsome fur coat was doubtless a bargain. Two figures gave a curious touch of drama ■to the sale. One was the governess who now has charge of Stavisky's children. She bought for them at 1 guinea a couple of sledges, and also secured a child's boat and several other toys. The other was Stavisky's faithful retainer, M. Pigaglio, who acquired a silk scarf which he said his master had borrowed from him one day and forgotten to return.
