BRITISH TRADE
IMPORTS OF RAW MATERIAL
INCREASE OF £27,000,000
(From our Correspondent)
London, Feb. 23, 1935.
Mr. Walter Eunciman, President of the Board of Trade, speaking at the British Industries Fair banquet, gave figures indicating the definite improvement in the home and overseas trade.
■•''The increase in jthe imports of raw materials for our industries is significant," he said. "The increase in value in 1934 compared with 1933 was £27,000,000. This is an index of renewed confidence and greater industrial activity. Our export trade for 1934: compared with 1933 rose in value by over £30,000,000, cr more than nine times the increase recorded a year ago.
"Our exports reached, in fact, a higher total than in any year since 1930. In particular, the exports of manufactured articles, which constitute the main bulk of the export trade, offer grounds for comparative satisfaction. The, total value of the export of Brit-ish-manufactured goods has risen from £282,000,000 in 1933 to £305,000,000 in 1934, an increase of £23,000,00."
