MEAT PROBLEM

MR, COATES LEAVING THIS MONTH It was announced officially today that the Minister of Finance (the Rt. Hon. J, G. Coates) would leave for London this month to take part in the negotiations with the British Government on the meat levy issue. Mr. Coates stated that he was not yet in a position to indicate the actual date of his departure beyond stating that he would leave either by the Rangitane from Auckland on April 13 or the Makura from Wellington on April 16. If the latter connection were taken it would involve his travelling across America by air. In either event he would arrive in London about May 16, which would be in ample time to permit of his taking part in the formal discussions on the meat problem.
