NAVAL VISITORS
A PLEASANT RECEPTION
The reception room at. Messrs Kirkcaldie and Stains' was crowded yesterday afternoon between the hours of 4.30 and 6 when Mr. R. H. Nesbitt, Australian Trade Commissioner jentertained a large number of guests at a cocktail party. The principal guest was Rear-Admiral Ford, C.B. and the officers of the naval squadron now in port. Tall palms at the entrance with masses of giant dahlias made a fitting setting for the bright scene. The large hall was charmingly decorated the tables being set with asters and hydrangeas, and the whole effect was one of dignity and charm. Mr. Nesbitt, assisted by Mr. James Payne, Assistant Trade Commissioner, and Mrs. Payne, received the guests who numbered not only naval and military celebrities, but a large representation of civil notabilities. Mrs. Payne was in a smart black ensemble with black hat and shoulder spray. Rear-Admiral Ford accompanied them. Cocktails and savouries were served and the afternoc'n passed most pleasantly.
