■'■■''' :Rugby^M«roh 25th.;: ■ Questioned in .the House as tp, the .British.Government "alposition in regard to the generalisation.of. minority treaties as proposed-by the Polish Government the Prims Minister recalled that; this was defined by the- Lora Privy Seal, Mr. Eden, at the League of Nations last September,, when he pointed out that these treaties were.created to deal with the specific problem of safeguarding minorities living in'the territory which was transferred by ,:the Peace Treaties from one State to, another .and who were racially akin to the population of a neighbouring State, This problemvwis -specific and- temporary and-the object of the' minorities; treaties was not to perpetuate, but to solve it. Nor was there any similar world problem which would justify an extension to the world at large of the procedure involved. The Prime Minister said ; that although the matter was .clearly one-for the^ League of Nations, the British Government did not,consider a. commission of inauiry. would serve any useful purpose.
