RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS
The eyecutive committee .of the. Senate of the University ,of New Zealand lias adopted the following resolution: —
•'That the committee places on record , its very high appreciation of the munificent gilt of Mr. George Shlrtdiffe to the University in the interests of'adTanccd study and research. The cbjhinittee feels sure that in the years to come the influence of the men and women who will be enabled by this generous foundation to prosecute research will fee felt in the life of' New Zealand and the Empire."
The death occurred at the.Welling. ton liospital on Monday night of Edwavd English, who was severely'injured when the motor-cycle on which h« was a pillion rider collided with a motor-car at Glenside on .Saturday evening. The deceased, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas English, of Lyall Bay, was 20 years of age and p a clerk by occupation. He was\ a popular figure iii local sport, ih summer as a member of the Karori Cricket Club, and in winter as a member of the Athletic Football Club's senior teams. He showed much promise as a Rugby footballer . and was- held in high esteem by his club.
