Nelson, March 25.- Wing-Commander _T.M .Wilkes, 'Director of Air Services, who acted as' judge, at the South Island Air Pageant, reviewing the events, said' the Bledi9loe trophy presented by Lord and Lady Bledlsloe to the New Zealand Aero Club for general airmanship among pilots who have held a license for not' more than one :year, was the finest thing that had ever been done for-aviation in New Zealand.aa It provided a complete test of airmanship. The winner of the South Jsland division was R.D.Lucas, of Nelson, whose , navigation was of a very high order. The reconnaissance report of the winner was what one would expect to receive from a- navigation officer In respect to a service flight. Wing-Commander .Wilkes said it had bte'en arranged that Lucas, who is a scholar, attending. Kelson College, should attend the Air Force refresher course at Wigram to place him on equal terms with the Morth Island winner. . \ ■ - > The Cory-Wright' Cup for naviga^ional/sklll among \ club-trained pilots was won by J.8.-Bejld/(Wa;lrarapa), '•■ who also won .the North Island division Motive/ BWdijp-. loe1 Trophy competition' at Masterton. -The winmE|. .*' /■/ gave' an excellent performance, showing-sound kn'ow-Vf / ledge of navigation. Pilot Finlayson, (Southland) ';- , gave- a splendid show to win the Boys Cup presented by Sir Francis Boys for annual competition among' B class pilots in landing. His landings were 5, 5 and 10 yards respectively from centre of circle* They were perfect.landings with good approaches. Miss Parkinson (Wanganui), In winning the Newman Cup for lady pilots in landing, gave an excellent performance. She approached with plenty of height to spare and made landings worthy of a professional pilot. , , The landing competition for A-licenae pilots, to which the Hack3on Cup is allotted, was won by Pilot Morphy of Wellington. "He also made excellent landings", said Wing-commander Wilkes, who added that th 6 winner's skill had. probably been Improved by the ldlosyncrasies of the,wind at Rongotai, ■ The New Zealand Air Cup ..(presented by Mrs* M.E. Renwick) for most points gained' by any club In the |various competitions-during.the Pageant, was won by Wairarapa. The points gained by the clubs competing were: Wairarapa , 8; Southland, 6; Manawatu, 5; Wellington, 4-gj Western Federated, 4; Otago, 3; Hawkes Bay, 3; Marlborough, 1^; Canterbury, 1* . P.A.
