BELGIAN TRADE

EXPOSITION AND FAIR

A universal and international exposition is to.be held at Brussels this year under the patronage of the King of the Belgians. Particulars received by the Belgian Consul in New Zealand (M Armand Nihotte) state that 27 nations are to be officially represented, including Great Britain. The site of the exposition is in' the beautiful forest region near the Royal Palace of Laeken, near Brussels. The buildings, according to illustrations received by the Consulate, will be essentially modern in their architecture and structure and show a striking departure from the rococo and ornate ideas often associated with, exhibitions in the past. For instance, the design for the Pavilion de la .vie Cathplique resembles a great domed' mosque vnth. minarets, and the British Pavilion is a great boxlike structure approached by a porch of tall columns. All is devoid of ornamentation other than the Royal Coat of Arms. Quite apart from the assemblage of modern buildings, and in a woodland setting, will be found a reproduction of the ancient City of Brussels. An important section will be that devoted to ancient art, in which five centuries of works of art, from 1400 to 1900, will be displayed and the insured value of which is £3,000.00)). Motoring, electricity, radio, and sports gatherings (in a stadium to accommodate 75.000 persons) will be outstanding fea-

tures ■of the exposition. A trade fair will be held ...in , Brussels .early in April, when over 3000 Belgian manufacturers and producers will be represented.
