CLAIM FOR HUGE SUM
OLD DEBT WITH INTEREST
INDIAN MAHARAJA SUED
CALCUTTA, February 2ft
An amazing claim for six billion: pounds has been made against the Maharaja of Rewa, one of the ruling princes of Central India, by Lala Ganga Prasad Singh, a land owner ixt the State.
The claim is based oh an allegation that about 150 years ago the Maharaja Ajay Singh, great-great-grandfather of the present Maharaja, borrowed £10,750 from the claimant's great-great-grandfather, for which he executed a bond, but the money; was never repaid and the debt with interest has reached the present enormous sum.
The claimant bases his suit undeu the Rewa State laws, where the time limitation does not apply in cases for? the recovery of arrears by State subjects. The claimant asked the State Government to permit him to institute a civil suit against the Maharaja in the State Courts for recovery of-the money. ■;■ :;^. ' . ■
