STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER
MR. FORBES DISCUSSES ARMAMENTS
NEW ZEALAND'S OBLIGATIONS
The international outlook, with particular reference to the - future peace of the world and the disarmament problem, formed the subject of an important and comprehensive statement made to ■ the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes). Mr. Forbes referred to the difficulties facing the-League of Nations, and outlined the steps taken under the Geneva Protocol, the Treaty of Locarno, the Locarno Treaty of Guarantee, the recently-concluded air agreement between Italy and France, and the proposals just discussed in London between Great Britain and France. The Prime Minister made it clear that the Dominions were not parties to the Treaty of Locarno, nor would they be to the proposed air agreement between the Locarno ' Powers, but he said there was no blinking the fact that if Great Britain became involved in war New Zealand would also be involved. That was so not only because of the legal position as it was accepted in New Zealand, but because the sentiment, of the -- country would inevitably insist on New Zealand standing shoulder to" shoulder with Great Britain.
