SCATTERED RAIN Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-easterly winds decreasing:' tonight. Weather mainly fair, but cloudy at times and some light .showers probably at night. .The forecast is,'for north-east .to northerly winds over the southern part of the South Island, elsewhere southerlies to easterlies, strong in Cook Strait area, but elsewhere moderate. Some scattered rain is still expected over the North Island, mainly between Cools Strait and East Cape; otherwise, fair to fine weather should prevail with moderate to warm temperatures. - The pressure distribution this morning over the New. Zealand area is almost identical with that of yesterday. The highest readings are still'over the east of the- South Island. Winds have changed to-northerly in the far south, but .'elsewhere' southerlies still prevail, and on the east coast and about Cook Strait have_freshened somewhat. It is still' rather warm, especially on the - West Coast. Widespread rains occurred on the east coast of the North Island, and were sufficiently heavy to be of considerable benefit. Elsewhere, also, there have been isolated, but mainly light, rains occurring principally during last night. At Auckland, there have been light, variable winds with fine, though humid weather. Conditions were "less settled in the surrounding districts, and a thunderstorm occurred to the south. At Wellington, muggy and rather warm weather has'persisted with' much mist and low cloud. Drizzling' rain set- in during the evening, arid there were a few heavy but very brief showers during the night. A total of .07 inches fell? and .12 inches at Lower Hutt. The midday hours, were again fine at Christchurch yesterday, but at other times it' was cloudy-to overcast. This morning there were a few ■ light 6howers. The wind was south-west, and moderate to strong. At Dunedin, overcast, weather has prevailed. Yesterday morning was misty, and the wind was south-east, but this morning it had turned to the .
