SUCCESSFUL PARTY
A very pleasant and successful bridge party was held in Gamble and Creed's rooms, Courtenay Place, last week in aid of the funds for the picnic for St. Joseph's Orphanage. The prizes for the'highest score went to Mrs. Kotlowski; and. for the hidden number to Mrs. Sullivan .and Mrs., Smith.. ';; Among those present .were Mesdanies Kennedy, O'Brien, Healy,. Springer, Denice, Waite, Thompson/ Cartwright, Johns, Peare, Beauchamp, McGuire, Casey, Stephens, Riddler, Hands, Walsh, Croft, Hodgins, Nunns, Meyer, Kotlowski, Sullivan, Misses Kedican, Hadfleld, Brennan (2), O'Brien, O'Neil, Whelan (3), Sullivan, Breeri (2), Jansen, Beatty, Cass, Black, Bates, Pricton, Flannigan, Kotlowski, Messrs. Herring, Thomas, O'Brien, Kennedy, Eyatt, O'Gorman, Regan, Knight, Berkins, Smith, Cass, Bourke,, and McGrath. The organisers, Mesdames Wanden, Wilkinson, anid Miss Breen, desire to thank all who helped in any way to make the party a success. : ■ ■ . !
are hampered by. the heavy burden of rates which absorb a good deal of money which otherwise could be expended on those who need it so sorely. ; It was stated also that the society had ipined\ with other organisations of women' in making the presentation to ler Excellency, Lady Bledisloe, whose kindness and interest was deeply appreciated. The thanks of the committee were given to the many friends and supporters who had given assist ance in money, kind, or service during the year.:.".' ' •" ■. ' - • Mrs. J. P. Firth (hon. treasurer) read the balance-sheet, which, with the report, was passed as satisfactory. •■-' \ Mrs. G. W. Forbes' (who .presided-in the absence of the Mayor) spoke' of her great interest in such good work as accomplished at the nursery, and of-h^r cordial hope that it would be well supported in the future, enabling such necessary assistance to be given to those who were unable to remain at home to look after their little- ones themselves. Mrs. 'Forbes also'spoke eulogistically of the very, fine work in the interests of the nursery accomiplished since its inception by Lady Luke (whom all missed that day), and hoped that her health would soon improve .so that she might be among them again. v '..•'. Mrs. J. S. Elliott proposed that a special message should be. sent to Lady Luke, expressing the hope that she would sopn be restored, to good health. Special mention was also made of'the late Mrs.' Murphy, M.8.E., a; valued and generous member oi, the committee, 'with sympathy ifor. her relatives and friends. -.: Lady Gray was elected as president and in accepting the position,' remarked on the fact that the nursery, in'common with all other social service efforts, had suffered financially, and she hoped that, specially, while there was still so much unemployment, the public would the best possible support to their funds.•.■•;..." ■"•'-■ ; ■'■ The committee, was re-elected, and the meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Forbes for presiding.- ■/ . • .-'"-'• ' •■ - ■ .-.-... ■.
