A joint meeting of "the lily and dahlUi circles of the Wellington Horticultural So-' ciety .will be held in Kirkcaldie's Loungn(first floor), Brandon Street entrance, next Thursday, February 14, at'B p.m., "when talks, illustrated with displays, /will' be ! given on these flowers.: Mr. E1; Ji Shanks^ formerly president of the Canterbury-Hor-ticultural Society, who is one of the foremost authorities in the. Dominion, ■will give a.talk oh lilies, and Mr; H.Jones, of Sliramar, a wellrkriown grower' arid es» hibitor, -will deal withl dahlias." As this will be one of the best evenings of tha season, members are urged to attend themselves and to invite any of their friends who may be interested to be pre* sent also. All flowers are to be. left foij display on Friday, on behalf ,o£ the «ociety, by Messrs, Kirkcaldie and Stains. The secondary schools in "WeJEungton, .including the Wellington Girls* Col* lege, have hot reduced the hours |ok study as suggested by the Minister ol!' Education (the Hon. S. G. Smith).
