STILL VERY ACUTE

CLEANING THE STREETS

SALT WATER TO BE USED

The slight rainfall last night did not greatly ameliorate the water shortage. Just under an inch fell in the Orongorongos and much less than that at Wainui-o-mata. . The city streets got a sprinkling from the skies, but nothing else, as they were not watered by the City Council.. They will receive no fresh water'until the water- position improves. A reversion is to be made to the old style of street watering, provided that the old salt water plant still functions.' The intake from-which the carts were filled is close by the Free Ambulance building, and though this appears to be still open, there is a doubt whether the. pipe suffered or not during the course of laying the foundations of the building. Tonight will probably show whether it did or not.
