SHOWERS AT PAHIATUA
WATER SUPPLY IMPROVED
(By Telegraph—Press : Association.)
PAHIATUA, This Day. ( Saturday's severe thunderstorm i seemed to circle the Pahiatua district, only light showers falling in the town, | insufficient to benefit the parched pastures to any extent. The temperature reached 87 degrees, the highest recorded'for many years. The town water supply, always poor, is only available in the. day time, as the reservoir is nearly empty. It is fortunate that no outbreaks of fire have occurred, as nothing could save the business area. Anxiety has now been relieved by the sinking of an artesian well to supplement the supply, which at present is better than it has ever been.
The acquisition of the water synchronised with the tar-sealing of the" first stretch of the ; main road in Pahiatua County, a mile and a half past the hospital. A contract has been let for sealing thirteen miles of road.
